And just like that, I'm a third of the way done with my internship at Cairns Tropical Zoo! Yesterday I said "see you later" to all of my furry friends and the wonderful mammal keepers who have mentored me so far.
I'm super thrilled that I was able to begin my internship in this department because prior to this experience I had not worked with a lot of the mammal species here. I'm now able to add all sorts of bullet points to my resumé; koala handling, creating a mammal enrichment schedule, and knowledge of animal medication prep and application are all new skills I now have that will serve me well in the future.
Though I'll miss the mammals and their keepers, the next three weeks are sure to be just as fun in the bird department! As always, stay tuned! :)
