It's getting harder and harder to choose a topic to write about each week! Not because there's a lack of worthy ones, but because there are tons. It's difficult to pick what to share with my readers! Fear not, though... I've decided on one!
I've gotten to know quite a few people in Australia, but I'm especially thankful for the four people I've lived with over the past few weeks. Our apartment has been like a little piece of America: Scott's from Colorado, I'm from Chicago, Sydney's from Texas, and Anna's from Atlanta (Gemma's from the UK, but she was our honorary American, haha). Truthfully, these lovely people have helped me steer clear of home sickness and culture shock. At the end of the day, I could go "home" and be comfortable. I'm very thankful for each and every one of them for making this experience even better than I expected.
Sadly, though, part of my little family is leaving! Scott finished his internship at Gilligan's Backpackers today and he'll be returning home tomorrow to Colorado. We've had our ups and downs (mostly because he stank up the apartment with his nasty tuna all the time), but I'm so glad I can call him a friend. Good luck, Scott! The Apartment 6 girls will miss you so much!
Then there's my British friend, Gemma. As much as I liked living with other Americans, it was equally cool living with her! I think I can speak for all of my roommates when I say that we've learned not just about Australian culture, but the British one too. She's made us more well rounded. :) Gemma also finished her internship today. She won't be headed home right away, though; luckily enough, she's staying till mid-December to travel Australia and New Zealand. I'm looking very forward to stalking her Facebook page to see what she gets up to!
These people weren't just my roommates. They're great friends that I know I'll have forever. Thanks for the many memories packed into a few short weeks. I call dibs on sleeping on both of your couches when I visit Colorado and London. :) Love and miss you two already!
