It's been so long since I last wrote, I don't know where to begin. I've been in four different states in a little over a week, but it's been beyond amazing. I'll give you a quick rundown of what I've been up to since I left Cairns (pronounced "Cans", if you've been reading that wrong for months now).
From Cairns, I headed to Alice Springs. If you have no idea where that is, I'll tell you. It's in the middle of the country. In the desert (or “the bush,” if you’re feelin’ Aussie), with no water. Luckily enough for me, it wasn't that hot. I survived and came away appreciative of the Anangu people (the Aboriginal people in the area) and their traditional beliefs and customs regarding the desert and its astonishing rock formations. Despite getting pretty sick on my last night of the tour, it was an amazing, eye-opening few days!
After that, I flew back to civilization. I only had one day to enjoy Adelaide, but enjoy it I certainly did – I took advantage of my legal drinking age and booked a last minute wine tour of the world famous Barossa Valley. It was a yummy, fun-filled day!
After that quick trip, I flew to meet the two reasons I’ve been in Australia for the past three months – my parents! They took a few days to recover from their jet lag, but we still had a great time exploring the city and eating fresh seafood. From Sydney, we headed to Brisbane, where we rented a car and checked off a prominent bucket list item – we visited the home of the Crocodile Hunter, Australia Zoo! It was a very impressive and inspiring visit, one I wouldn't have done with anyone else. After all, no one has supported my zoo career as wonderfully as my parents have.
And now, we’re getting ready to hop on a ferry to Fraser Island for a three day tour. After that, we’re going on a sailing trip. As you can see, I've been quite busy making memories. I can’t wait to tell you about my next ones! J
